Computer Forensics Certification
Computer security is one of the largest vulnerabilities for businesses and government. Tens of millions of dollars are stolen each year from information obtained illegally from computers. Obtaining a computer forensics certification can greatly increase an aspiring individual's chances of employment in this exciting and growing field.
Many states require computer forensic expert witnesses to have professional certification. There are a variety of certification programs to choose from including the EnCE Certification Program, the Certified Computer Forensics Examiner, The Global Information Assurance Certification, GIAC Certified Forensics Analyst, Certified Forensic Computer Examiner, and the Certified Computer Examiner.

The EnCE Certification Program certifies both the public and private sector in the use of EnCase computer forensics software. In addition to testing for software knowledge, the certification also tests investigation methodology during complex computer examinations. With the recent electronic discovery laws for court proceedings that have been enacted in recent years, the EnCE can be a valuable certification.
The Certified Computer Forensics Examiner (CCFE) certification is a rigorous examination for those with experience and industry knowledge. In addition to knowledge based questions, examinees are also given mock evidence files in the form of a computer image to be analyzed and reported on as part of of the examination.
The International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS) offers the Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE) certification. In addition to more standard testing, the examinee must also resolve forensic images and hard disk drive problems. The International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners' (ISFCE) Certified Computer Examiner (CCE) certification focuses on the technical side of data recovery and handling. It also emphasizes examination and storage procedures.
Schools are offering more and more forensic computer study certification programs, and there are many that can be done online. With online programs, students can continue working full time while preparing for their certification examinations. Whichever certification program you choose, all can be of great benefit for career opportunities and advancement.
